The Certified Foot Care Nurses Interest Group (CFCNIG) was the first interest group given approval status by the Board of Directors of the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba (CLPNM).

As Licensed Practical Nurses completed the postgraduate Foot Care course there was an interest in forming a Nursing Foot Care Interest Group to enhance the role of the foot care nurse and to provide an avenue for sharing information. In response to this interest, a formation meeting was held June 1, 1994. The group adopted a mission statement and goals and was formally recognized as an Interest Group June 10, 1994.
